Manager Jim Magilton has hailed the footballing passion Marcus Evans, less than a week after the Ipswich owner publicly backed the Irishman to continue in his role as manager.

We’ve Been Nominated! Vote Vital Ipswich…

The elusive businessman released a statement via the club website last week, after Magilton had been widely criticised in the local media following a 1-1 draw with Blackpool at Portman Road that left the Blues in eleventh place, seven points off the play-offs.

In this statement, Evans broadcast his belief that Jim was the man to take Town to the Premiership: ‘I believe that this team can do it and Jim can take us to the Premier League but it’s just not ours by right and we will have to continue to strive to be at our best to be promoted.’

This public backing was then followed by two wins inside a week for Jim Magilton’s Ipswich side, who are now only two points off the top six. A week is a long time in football.

Jim had nothing but praise for Evans, and says that he keeps in regular contact with him: ‘I talk to the owner at least every other day. And we talk football.

‘He has become a passionate football man.

“Marcus has put the money in, he is the owner it is only right that he should want to know what is going on. We have been working towards a better tomorrow and assembling a squad since then.’
