It Is What It Is

We all are aware of the disappointing start made under new boss Paul Cook but whose fault is it? Former Ipswich Town player David Norris thinks that Paul Cook needs more time, and he must be backed by the new owners with some financial clout. In an exclusive interview for the FLW, Norris insisted that he is the right appointment for the Blues.

It’s not his team. If he had started a bit better there would be no question that he just needs a bit more time and to do it his way. He’s not been there that long. He’s having to deal with what he’s got and at the minute, he’s got a lot of probably unhappy players – or players that are not going to be there”, Norris explained, and he believes the club has to keep him in place for another season.

He went on, “But at least you’ve got to back him – the club overall has backed managers, it’s just they have never bought the right players in – or the right management in. But I think he’s got to be backed and he’s got to be given a bit more time.”

Norris is of course right. This is not his squad. He needs time to find a winning formula, and to bring in a first-team coach who is good enough to get the best out of his players. Rome was not built in a day, and nor was Ipswich Town football club. These things take time, and we will just have to rip up the old draft and start from scratch.

I believe the bad start he has made is because his right-hand man Leam Richardson decided to stay with Wigan. Had he joined us here, things might have been so different.

In another development today, Town confirmed that they will have a new shirt sponsor starting next season and the Supporters Club were told that a new sponsor would be announced shortly.
