Iron Offer Not Enough

So Scunthorpe’s offer of a three year contract wasn’t enough to tempt Liam Trotter into moving away from Portman Road!

Trotter extended his stay at Ipswich by another 12 months yesterday, although we initially expected him to leave the club for former loan side Scunny. He was on loan at Glanford Park towards the end of last season where he helped the Iron to League One play-off success, meaning an immediate return to the Championship.

Further doubts were cast over his future when he admitted that he felt part of the team at Scunthorpe and was duly offered a contract there, since he was to become a free agent at the start of July.

It was an odd season for the 20-year-old last season. He scored away at Burnley in an Ipswich shirt in the second game of the last campaign and made it into the Championship Team of the Week for his performance, but then was farmed out to Grimsby at the bottom of the Football League structure. As you know, he ended up at Scunny where he made 14 appearances.

Trotter becomes the fourth player out of four to commit his future to the club this summer. The others to have signed are Shane Supple, Alex Bruce and Ed Upson. I wonder if those players would have signed under Jim Magilton…
