Ipswich fans fear not – Mick McCarthy will not become the next Republic of Ireland manager.

McCarthy has been enigmatic in his answers regarding the vacate post, with many suggesting he is ready to leave Ipswich Town if asked, and he has a clause allowing him to take it.

But Vital Football has learned that the Republic of Ireland will not be considering McCarthy for the vacancy no matter what.

McCarthy was favourite with the bookmakers at one stage, then it was Martin o’Neill, who is understood to have turned down the opportunity as he wants to return to club management.

Rumours has it McCarthy is back in the box seat but insiders at the FAI are not keen on his return.

So the big Yorkshireman can concentrate on getting Town in the play-offs instead.
