Blues owner Marcus Evans has stepped in to try and keep on-loan Blackburn midfielder Keith Andrews.

Ipswich manager Paul Jewell revealed Evans will hold talks with Andrews’ agent, probably in Dublin, on Monday after the midfielder notched his ninth goal for Town since aqrriving on loan.

Although Town face competition from Wolves, Norwich, Leeds and Wigan, with talk of Swansea’s interest dismissed, Jewell feels Evans’ intervention could help.

He said: “He wants to stay and his agent is meeting with the owner on Monday – so we will see.”

But Jewell knows the impression the Republic of Ireland ahs made with Town, and his country, in the apst four months, will have not gone unnoticed by bigger clubs.

Speaking after the 1-0 win over Derby Jewell said: “Nine is a terrific contribution from a midfield player. We will try to keep him beyond his loan period.
“The more goals he scores the more difficult it will be for us.’
