Ipswich Town have made a move to sign Watford goalkeeper Scott Loach for £1 million in January, according to insiders at his old club Lincoln.

Loach, an unashamed Blues fan after spending his younger days growing up in Ipswich, impressed in a recent visit to Portman Road with the Hornets.

Although Arran Lee-Barrett holds the position at the moment with Richard Wright backing up, Town are in the market for a top keeper after David Stockdale returned to Fulham following a loan spell.

Watford boss Sean Dyche does not want to lose the England under-21 keeper but the club need the cash and the offer could be too good to turn down.

Jewell has the full backing of multi-millionaire owner Marcus Evans and intends to spend more of the £8.1m Town got from Sunderland for Connor Wickham last summer.
“You have to speculate to accumulate,” Jewell said at yesterday’s press cnference. “But at the same you can`t be silly about it.

“We want to be as ambitious as we possibly can without being stupid.
“If you look at what (owner) Marcus Evans has done since he`s come to the club, I wouldn`t think he`ll be penny pinching. He has certainly not said there`s no money there.”

Lincoln are monitoring the move closely as they get 15% of the fee as part of a sell-on clause.
