Russell Osman’s Under 18s get Leeds United in FA Youth Cup

The Blues will entertain Leeds United in the FA Youth Cup third round.
The match will be played at Portman Road before Saturday, December 17, on a date to be arranged.
The young Blues have won the FA Youth Cup three times, in 1973, 1975 and more recently when they beat Southampton in a two-legged final in 2005.
Legend has it that back in the 70s at a dinner to celebrate winning the cup, chairman John Cobbold famously suggested the parents should retire to their hotel rooms and set about producing another batch of winners.

  • We’ve always had a pretty decent youth set up given some of the talent that has come out of the club over the years – most recently Connor Wickham of course, and Josh Carson has looked promising too – but I don’t know if we necessarily get the best use out of it.

  • You are right Darren. We got a bit lucky with Connor, and selling him when we did was great business, although I feel we missed a trick with Jordan Rhodes.
The Academy is still a bit hit and miss. Not sure it is good and productive as it was when a certain England sriker came through from aged 10.
