Young Ipswich Town midfielder Conor Hourihane is set to join Plymouth Argyle after a successful trial spell with the League Two club.

Hourihane was ex-boss Roy Keane’s first signing of last summer, but the 20-year-old former Sunderland midfielder has never made a senior appearance for Town. The Republic of Ireland U21 international has recently been on trial with Plymouth, netting on his Home Park debut in their 2-1 friendly victory against Truro City on Thursday.

Ipswich have now confirmed that Hourihane is set to sign for Plymouth on a two year deal having impressed Pilgrims boss Peter Reid. The youngster is set to leave on a free transfer despite having been offered a new six month contract by manager Paul Jewell back in April.

Hourihane could well be followed out of the club by Shane O’Connor. The left-sided defender or midfielder has recently been away on trial with League Two newcomers Crawley Town, who are said to be weighing up a move for the 21-year-old. Elsewhere Reggie Lambe, who was released by Town earlier in the summer, has been on trial with fellow League Two side Gillingham.
