Ex Colchester United keeper dean Gerkin has joined up with Ipswich Town for their pre-season game at Shelbourne.

The 6’4” keeper who had seven years with the U’s has been released by Bristol City and so available on a free and manager Mick McCarthy will run the rule ove rhim during their training stint in Ireland.

The 28-year-old Essex boy will be used as back up to Scott Loach as Town look to boost their squad.

Gerkin is experienced but has never reached the heights expected of him but perhaps he can mature further at Portman Road.
