Black Cats Join Town For Left-Back

|

Ipswich will face competition from League One rivals Sunderland for the signature of Middlesborough left-back Hayden Coulson, it emerged today.

Just like former Blues favourite from a bygone year Eric Gates, Coulson is from Gateshead. It would not be too far for him to travel if he decided to pack his bags and headed to  Tyne and Wear. Whether he would receive such a warm welcome is open to debate, and he might be wise to go a little further afield if he wants to avoid any North East rivalries!

He is the perfect age at just 23, to start a new life with a new club, and if he sees who we have already bought, and our ambitions for the future, he might be persuaded to join us – especially if he enjoys the music of Ed Sheeran!  Make no mistake folks. Ipswich Town are finally going places, and with new owners, a new sponsor, a new manager, and a new set of players, I feel the only way is up!

Last season Coulson was on a season-long loan at Cambridge United and by all accounts, he performed rather well. Coulson’s future at Middlesbrough is in jeopardy, as he is not part of managers’ Neil Warnock’s plans for the upcoming season.

Perhaps the real reason for so much interest in the player is his versatility. He can play right across the backline and can adapt to a defensive midfield role. Coulson was named as Boro’s Young Player of the Season in 2019/20, but the 23-year-old made only 17 appearances in the Championship last term before he was loaned out, so it seems inevitable that a move for him is imminent.

Coulson has represented England at under 16,17 and under 18 level. He even earned a call up to the under 19 squad in 2016, although more recently, he has gone under the radar a bit admittedly.
