Former Town star Darren Bent has bee sensationally binned from Sven Goran Eriksson’s world cup plans.

The surprise inclusion of Theo Walcott means that their is no place for Bent, and Jermaine Defoe has to settle for a replacement role.

Bent said “I am obviously really disappointed. I wasn’t taking anything for granted and knew that it was by no means certain that I would be included, but being the leading English goalscorer in the Premiership I was very hopeful of being included.

“All I can do now is go away on holiday, recharge my batteries and look forward to next season.”

The news is a blow to Town, who stood to gain £200 000 for each of Bents first tw0 world cup appearences.

  • England could do with a few people like Bent. I thinkSven’s selection in this area is poor. One unfit, one past it, One untried, one Hit man.
