Dean Whitehead could be made Ipswich captain if he signs from Sunderland, although Stoke are reported to be interested in the midfielder.
It’s been nearly week since we first heard the news that Ipswich were chasing Daryl Murphy and Dean Whitehead and the deal for the duo was said to be close to completion towards the end of last week. However, there appears to have been little progress in signing the players for a combined £5 million as Hull are now reported to be closing in on Murphy, while Stoke have today been linked with Whitehead.
One paper today says that Ipswich gaffer Roy Keane has offered his former Sunderland captain Whitehead the chance to take the armband at Portman Road if he signs. I wonder what Gareth McAuley would have to say about that.
