Town On The Up And Up!

It may not have been their classiest performance but the blues could have won this one more handsomely in the end but at least it is another three valuable points in the bag.

Grinding out results compensates for indifferent displays and in the first half against Charlton Town were struggling to make any serious headway for long periods.

That changed with the opener from Tommy Smith and then Charlton had to change tactics and come out of their shell.

I have been especially impressed with the collective commitment of the squad as a whole. Everyone seems to be fighting for each other these days and this is surely a reflection on Mick McCarthy and Terry Connor who are quick to point out that you get nothing if you don’t work hard.

Games are coming thick and fast but thankfully we are not picking up any serious injuries to key players and team spirit is on an all time high!

We are now more than half way through the season and The Tractor Boys are doing it for themselves!

In football confidence is often underrated but we can now clearly see the impact it has on team performances and this is especially so in the case of Daryl Murphy who is on fire right now.

Who could have imagined that he could be top of the Sky Bet Championship charts with 17 goals in just 23 appearances for the blues. I always thought he was a one in three man myself but he has proved me wrong and what a fantastic season he has had!

It was good too to see David McGoldrick back on the score sheet again last night and he could easily have had a hat-trick even before his goal with a bit more luck.

Next up is Southampton and perhaps our manager might even give some of our fridge players a game for this one?

The F.A. Cup seems like an unnecessary distraction given our league form but it might be good to test ourselves against some top flight Premier opposition and even Tyrone Mings might get a game!
