Ipswich Town manager Paul Jewell has confirmed that defenders Gareth McAuley and Damien Delaney have both been offered new contracts at the club.

McAuley and Delaney, who are both away on international duty this week, are currently set to leave Portman Road when their contracts expire this summer, with McAuley having previously turned down an offer earlier in the year. However, Jewell has revealed that discussions are progressing with all of his out-of-contract players, and the Blues boss hopes to tie up some new deals very soon.

‘I’ve spoken to them all,’ Jewell told local reporters, ‘including Damien [Delaney] who has also been called up the Republic of Ireland squad, which is another pat on the back for him, and also Gareth [McAuley].’

‘I told them we will be putting an offer in writing and hopefully that will be accepted. And as soon it is accepted, it will get signed.’

McAuley and Delaney have proven a successful defensive pairing at Ipswich and most fans have voiced their desire for the duo to be signed up on new deals as soon as possible. There are still question marks over a number of other first team regulars however, with captain David Norris, Carlos Edwards, Colin Healy and Brian Murphy among the 21 players whose current terms are up at the end of the season.
