Town In The Hunt For Brother Noel

Well we can only assume that the manager knows best. Until very recently we thought that Stephen Hunt was probably past his, until recent performances convinced us otherwise.

Now it seems his brother is on the way!

I guess having a Noel in the side at Yuletide is rather fitting but once again Mick McCarthy has gone for the least obvious striker choice – unless of course his brother has bent the ear of the boss?

Looking at Noel’s more recent track record does not make inspiring reading. Twenty appearances for Leeds United and no goals is not the sort of thing you want to read about when referencing a striker and surely we have one with similar stats in Conor Sammon anyway!

It is a rather curious choice I must confess. When I inferred yesterday that what we need urgently is another proven striker, I was not thinking of Stephen`s brother to be honest.

Perhaps Mick McCarthy wants to prove us wrong again and let`s face it; this is something he has done before. Who for example had heard of Kevin Bru before the seasons start – not even the gaffer himself I suspect and what a revelation he has been in midfield!

The verdict is still out on Balint Bajner, Cameron Stewart and Alex Henshall so if the manager has an achilles heel, it seems to be in the attacking quarter; as the recruitment of Jonathan Parr and Christophe Berra have added real quality to our defence and Bartosz Bialkowski looks like he could do much the same.

Then again, we must not forget that Mick was a defender and thinks like one too and the more familiar Sean St Ledger might boost our defence further soon, if he agrees to a rolling contract or a short term deal in the next few days.

The news on the other Hunt is that he may sign before tomorrow`s 17.00 hour emergency loan deadline and he could go straight into the squad for the live televised Sky game against Charlton on Saturday afternoon, if everything goes to plan.

What Noel Hunt lacks in goals he more than makes up for in hunger apparently. We can only hope on that premise that our main strikers continue to stay fit for the foreseeable future then!
