Aston Villa and Bolton have joined Ipswich, Wolves, Norwich, Wigan and Leeds, in the chase to sign Keith Andrews in January.

The Blues hope to steal a march on their rivals with owner Marcus Evans speaking with the player’s agent in Dublin today.

Paul Jewell revealed after Andrews scored the winner against Derby, his ninth goal of the campaign, that the player was keen to stay at Portman Road after his loan spell expires next month.

But Wolves are in the hot-seat, with Mick McCarthy a known admirer of the Irish international, and he is expected to also secure Danny Collins from Stoke.

Lancashire and Yorkshire papers reported Norwich and Leeds’ interest on Saturday, with a couple of Sunday papers adding Aston Villa and Bolton to the mix.

Swansea have also been mentioned but Brendan Rodgers has made it clear the Premier League club will not be spending anything like the £2m being touted for Andrews, on a 31-year-old.
