Nightmare left back turned star centre back Damien Delaney believes Ipswich should only be focusing on getting out of the bottom three and forget the play-offs – for now.

The former QPR man says the Christmas period has come at the right time, because it is an opportunity to fill their stockings with plenty of points. He told the club site: ‘The games come thick and fast through December and there are a lot of points at stake but if we can keep going with the run we are on and pick up more wins then we’ll see where it takes us.

‘The first target – to get out of the bottom three. That is my immediate aim and then the next target is to get away from the relegation zone.

‘I know people have been saying we are only twelve points off the play-offs but that’s a long way off at the moment. Of course we can close the gap but one step at a time and the first priority is to get out of the bottom three and away from that end of the table.’

Ipswich’s next chance to pull out of the relegation zone is against Bristol City at Ashton Gate this Saturday.
