We may have lost Macauley Bonne and Bersant Celina, but manager Kieran McKenna and CEO Mark Ashton have already recruited extraordinarily well. It’s been a great start!
We may need another striker, but the squad as a whole is now full of goals. And who is to say that Celina and Bonne might not eventually come home? Celina is still a real possibility, and I would not entirely rule out Bonne either, as the season progresses.
I like the look of our new signing Marcus Harness. He has always impressed me, and most importantly of all is that he knows where the net is. He can play anywhere along the forward line, and at 26 is an ideal age to push on with a club with ambition.
Olayinka Fredrick Oladotun Ladapo is another player that I think fits the bill. He is tall and speedy and is a natural striker, and I believe he will get us lots of goals. At 29, he is a good age for a striker and has enough experience at this level to make a real difference. He is tall at 6ft 2inches but is technically very good, and he will get us goals!
Domonic Ball is essentially a defensive midfielder but he is versatile enough to play at the back if required. He is hungry for success and this is something that unites all our new players. It is quite obvious that Kieran Mckenna has underlined this quality and it is no coincidence that they all have this in their locker. Left-back Greg Leigh and loanee Tyreece John-Jules, fall into the same category. They all desperately want to succeed.
We all know how difficult it is to get out of this division, but once again today, we proved we are up to the task. A 4-2 defeat at the hands of Premier League side Crystal Palace was clearly no disgrace, whilst another Ipswich Town team defeated League Two AFC Wimbledon 0-3 later this afternoon. It proves that we have strength in depth these days and sending Joe Pigott to rivals Portsmouth on a season-long loan is also a very shrewd move. He needs games but if he starts scoring, then we might just bring him back. With more signings on the way, we already have a squad to be truly proud of.
