Ipswich Town have been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1  This follows an incident following the full-time whistle in their 0-1 defeat to Cambridge United.

Both clubs have been charged by the FA with ‘failure to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion after the final whistle.’ The Blues have until Monday to respond but the club will not be making any comment at this time we are told.

Let us return to the incident that caused all the problems at the end of the game. Macauley Bonne was justifiably incensed with the goal that never was.  Bonne and Jubril Okendina were both booked and although already on a yellow card, Smith got involved as well.  Bonne’s frustration after the final whistle against Cambridge United was understandable.  The referee had given the goal moments earlier, only to be overuled by his linesman. he was deemed to be offside, but how could Sone Aluko be offside, when a Cambridge player was on standing the goal line behind him?

But I want to look at the incident preceeding this that led to all that bad blood after the match. The game briefly boiled over in the 38th minute, after a clash of handbags between Thompson and Williams. James Norwood then came from nowhere to join in and shove Williams in the chest,  then Smith got involved and swung an arm in the direction of the Town striker, as referee Craig Hicks desperately tried to restore some order. Once again, it was Mr Nasty who was the provocateur. He really is a bad boy that has become a bit of a liability at this football club. Yes, when he is on song he scores goals but his yellow cards per game ratio far outweighs his goals per game ratio these days, and he has become a bit of a liability and has to go.
