Manager Jim Magilton has confirmed that he is interested in signing goalkeeper Richard Wright, while the former Ipswich stopper is also thought to want the move.

Wright made a club record 26 clean sheets in his first stint as an Ipswich player but left the club for Premiership giants Arsenal. After turning down his hometown club last season, Magic is back in the hunt for the West Ham keeper. He said: ‘There is no secret that I wanted him 12 months ago, but it did not happen possibly because something was lost in translation.

‘Richard is a very good goalkeeper and I feel he would be at his best playing for Ipswich Town.’

Unlike last summer, Wright would probably require a fee before gaining permission from the Hammers to talk to him, but the fee would be relatively small.

The 30-year-old spent the final few games of last season helping Southampton avoid relegation. On the south-coast he was coached by former goalkeeping coach Malcolm Webster who is also expected to rejoin the Blues in the same role by this time next week. Saints chairman Rupert Lowe was reportedly spotted at Ipswich recently finalising a deal for Webster.
