Ten Men Town Defeat WBA With Late Winner

I watched this game on the train on Facebook and I have to say the Blues played very well in fits and starts.

Ipswich went in front early in the second half through Aaron Drinan but then found themselves having to play the last forty minutes with just ten men, after Goteni was dismissed for bringing down Sam Field who then got up and scored from the penalty spot!

I have to say though that for the most part Town were on top and even when they lost a defender and had to battle on with less numbers, they still controlled large junks of the game.

Ben Morris has matured as a forward and it was fitting that he should score the second Town goal after Albion had equalized.

The game was not out of sight though for the visitors, and they made their numerical advantage count when they levelled things again after Soule prodded home at the second attempt. Crowe had saved his initial attempt.

But the Blues were not to be outdone and they continued to carve out goalscoring opportunities and it the final minute of normal time Ipswich went in front once again.

Morris showed his lightning pace down the right and put in a rasping low ball that caused Ferguson to turn the ball into his own net with Drinian in close attention behind, just waiting for a tap in.

I was impressed with the Town forward line and Aaron Drinian and Ben Morris seemed to have forged a good partnership up front.

What impressed me to was the sides never-say-die attitude – even when they were reduced to ten men and they always looked a threat going forward.

I just hope that with our season all but over, some of these guys get a chance in the first team.

The match itself meant little, because Town would only qualify for the last sixteen of the Premier Cup if Sheffield United were hammered by Aston Villa but let’s take nothing away from their collective team spirit and commitment to the cause.
