Young goalkeeper Shane Supple has vowed to fight for the number one spot at Ipswich this season, a day after the club signed Richard Wright from West Ham.

Supple is now 21 and admits that he needs to be playing games to develop his career. Even at his young age, Ipswich have signed six keeper that have been ahead of him in the pecking order despite being tipped for a big future.

And Supple has considered the possibility of leaving the Blues to get his chance: ‘I don’t want to leave Ipswich but I’m 21 and I need to be playing games. It comes down to what the manager decides so we will probably sit down and have a chat.’

Ipswich have a 100% record in pre-season so far, with Supple playing in every game and has enjoyed every minute of it: ‘It was good playing 90 minutes every game and I felt I did well.’

However, the young Irish U21 international has vowed that Richard Wright won’t be getting an easy ride in the fight for the number one jersey: ‘He won’t be getting an easy ride. I will make him work hard for his place.’
