Despite being marginally the better side in the first half, Town were terrible at the back in the second and were ruthlessly exposed by the Hoops.

Niko Kranjcar eased past lumbering Luke Chambers and Paul Taylor and fired into the far corner in the 52nd minute in a classy fashion.

Town’s troubles doubled in the 66th minute when Dean Gerken failed to hold Charlie Austin’s 25-yard shot and it was parried into the path of the onrushing Gary O’Neill who tapped it into the open goal.

Tommy Smith’s woeful attempts to clear Clint Hill’s long clearance allowed substitute Armand Traoré to nip in and score his first QPR goal.

Smith hit a spectacular consolation as the match entered injury time the the centre half showing remarkable agility to whack a Stephen Hunt corner home.
