No More False Starts Please

If you agree with me and think that football is all about 60% belief and 40% technical ability, then you will also understand how important momentum is, and how vital it is as a collective to find it.

The news today that manager Paul Cook has confirmed that former England international and ex-Sunderland manager Peter Reid is joining his coaching team on a consultancy basis is a move in the right direction. Reid is, by nature, a good motivator, and more to the point, his vast experience in the game will be a valuable asset – not just to Cook but the whole of his coaching staff.

Cook spoke of the appointment on the club’s official website.  “I worked with Peter for three years at Wigan. He’s a great guy. In the footballing world, you’ll rarely find someone who is as respected as Peter Reid, not just as a footballer but also what he’s done as a manager. Peter coming in is great, not just for me, but the other coaching staff and the club itself. Having people with that amount of experience at a football club can only be good.”

And there was another appointment made at the club today. Gary Probert is joining Town as Director of Football Operations and he will head up the club’s recruitment, Academy, analysis, U23’s and loans programme. He worked underneath Mark Ashton for over five years at Bristol City and went on to be appointed as academy manager by Town new CEO Mark Ashton.

Tomorrow, we visit Cambridge United. It’s a short trip, and our away support ticket allocation has completely sold out. The rest of this month includes some testing encounters on our travels, so we need to try to gain some momentum, and this would mean no more false starts!

That’s easier said than done, I hear you say, but if we are to move up the table and into a challenging position before the festive period begins, then it is time to pull our Christmas socks up!
