It didn’t take much persuading for goalkeeper Brian Murphy to join Ipswich, revealed the keeper as he was unveiled as a Town player.

Although the Irishman had signed a contract with the Blues earlier in the season, rules meant that he couldn’t be officially registered as an Ipswich player until January 1st, the day the transfer window opened. Murphy, dubbed the next Shay Given, says he is now looking to push on from the good reputation he earned whilst plying his trade in Ireland.

He told the club site: ‘I enjoyed my three years with Bohemians and did quite well. I think I rebuilt my career there and hopefully I can push on from here and win the respect of everyone at Ipswich.’

The 26-year-old signs a year-and-a-half deal at Portman Road and has previously had spells in England with Man City and Swansea. Murphy doesn’t have the best of memories of last time he was in this country, but hopes all that changes now.

He continued: ‘It was a pretty easy decision to come back once I knew Ipswich were interested.

‘I didn’t enjoy the last six to eight months of my time playing in the English league with Swansea. I probably lost a bit of love for the game and it was best that I went back home to Ireland.’

Finally, Brian admitted he was excited about his move to Suffolk: ‘It was the right club at the right time, what with the size of the club, and the manager that is here as well. Once I was told there was firm interest from Ipswich, it was an exciting thought.’

He could even make his debut this weekend against Leicester, providing the game isn’t called off.
