Momentum Is The Key Ingredient

A best-selling New York author said, “For any movement to gain momentum, it must start with a small action. This action becomes multiplied by the masses and is made tangible when leadership changes course due to the weight of the movement’s voice.”

That voice comes from Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna who has instilled a belief pattern into all his squad which says nothing is insurmountable. In his short tenure at the club, he has already proved that with good coaching and a clear vision, a player can buy into an ethos which suits all parties. Momentum helps to make this happen.

The player knows that with steady improvement he can see the fruits of his endeavours – not just by what happens on the field but also in his social life. Conor Chaplin nailed it when he said that there are no “bad apples” in the pack and that everybody knows that modern football is essentially a team game, and no one has a divine right to be picked every week. That said, you cannot succeed without a degree of momentum.

Town are still unbeaten in League One and have only dropped points at home so far. Away, they have been invincible, with three wins on the bounce. If the Blues were to win at Altringham tomorrow, they would make it four away wins for the first time in the club’s history. Travelling is always a challenge, but expectations are probably a little lower than playing at Portman Road, and Town’s free-flowing football when they generally dominate possession, seems to serve them very well in their role as visitors. And a narrow victory tomorrow afternoon might be enough to take Town top again!

2-1 away win at Accrington tomorrow.

In the meantime, the two latest additions to Town’s squad look like good business. On the face of it both players can make the step up to Championship football as and when we get there.

    You were Frank!
Talking of Town in the Championship, how do you think we would do there with our current squad?
    Bottom 6, 13-18th, 7-12th or play offs?

And you were right, Richard! As for Town in the Championship, I think Town would fair relatively well. Momentum can take you places, and if we come up automatically and ideally as champs, we could find ourselves in mid-table – or above in our first season back there. I think our style of play is good enough for the Championship, and with a few extra additions, we could go places and fast!
