And what a magnificent few weeks it has been for Ipswich Town football club! September brought us four wins and a draw and catapulted us up to the table and into those prestigious play-off places from lowly 19th and it also saw both manager Mick McCarthy and defender Tyrone Mings rewarded for their efforts, with nominations for Sky Bet awards for performances both on and off the field.

October has continued in similar fashion with a priceless point at Forest, that was oh so nearly three and international call-ups for Daryl Murphy, Jonny Williams and Jonathan Par for their respective countries; plus of course the news today that both Mings and McCarthy`s nominations were successful!

When was the last time that Town won both the player of the month and the manager of the month awards simultaneously? I will have to research that one but it might be never!

With Roy Keane ranting and raving about not liking the colour blue and how the chemistry at Ipswich did not fit his DNA, it is indeed a delight to see that the loyalty that both Mings and McCarthy have bestowed on Town has gained its just rewards.

Keane tried to destroy this club single-handedly and the repair work that was instigated by Paul Jewell is finally reaching fruition at long last now.

People have always been quick to condemn Jewell but he inherited a disjointed squad when he took over from Keane and although he failed miserably to realize the success he had with Wigan, when he took them to the Premier for the first time in their history, it was not for the want of trying. Unlike Keane, he had Ipswich in his heart and incidentally still does!

Jewel we must remember, was responsible for recruiting Aaron Creswell from Tranmere and Elliot Hewitt from Macclesfield before he departed; along with other regulars including Luke Chambers. Paul Taylor was another Jewell recruit who became a firm favourite at Portman Road but he did not hit it off with McCarthy.

Interestingly Jewell and McCarthy are still good friends and regularly communicate with each other so I guess they must have something in common? One thing that it is not though is lasting success and long may this continue with Mick at the helm!
