Manager Mick McCarthy has said that he’s going to have to be patient over the summer when it comes to securing the loan signings of talented players from the Premier League.

With the World Cup kicking off tonight, the gaffer told the Official Site that clubs who do have players involved in it, will obviously be giving them an extended holiday over the summer so they can recharge, and in turn that means that their most talented youngsters will be travelling with them in pre season and so on, so any possible loan deals to be done will be naturally delayed for a good few weeks as those clubs wait for their internationals to get back up to speed in training.

‘The players that will be involved in the World Cup will need a break so Premier League clubs will take all their best youngsters with them on tour and keep them through pre season. They will look at their young players and see if they are good enough to be involved next season, or whether they will benefit from going out on loan.’

The gaffer says that there are ‘definitely’ loan deals to be done with Premier League sides, and he’s determined he won’t miss out on them and points to our capture of Jonny Williams last season and the impact he had, as proof of what could be available, even if it’s only short term.

But obviously whilst it’s something we are looking at and ‘working towards’ with everything else going on this summer, he knows we’ll have to show some ‘patience’ and then make sure we are in a position to move when the time is right.
