Like A Good Wine We Will Mature With Time

Ipswich Town supporters have been spoilt more recently on good football and good results, but if you think that is it, then think again! The Blues manager Keiran McKenna believes that there is a lot more in the tank to see us through to the season’s end, and this bodes well for all of us! We have been on an amazing run, so this is encouraging.

A series of five straight wins and six successive clean sheets, having found the net 16 times in the process, suggests that we are coming good at exactly the right time in this campaign. Let us hope so because there is always one side that gets over the finishing line with a late run, so why can it not be us? McKenna knows that it takes time to bed in new players, but now it seems that Broadhead, Clarke, Luango and Hirst are starting to read the Ipswich Town script, and following their lines to the letter.

On the subject of this, and the possibility of yet greater things to come, he said this:

“If you put three or four new starters in the team it takes them a little bit of time to gain the understanding of how we play. We’re getting there, but we’re still not there yet, in my opinion. We’re still redeveloping as a team and going over some old concepts for the newer players. It’s also about finding new ways to attack and defend with the strength of the players we’ve added. I think we’re still improving as a team and I think there’s a lot of scope for us to improve again. To be honest, if I ever thought I’d seen the best of us it would probably be time to get my coat.

We are lucky to have Kieran Mckenna as our manager because it is more than just another managerial job for him. He is working with CEO and his backroom staff to make this project work not only for himself, the board and the fans but also for the owners who have invested heavily in a policy that must deliver success. If we get promoted this season, it would be a very big step in the right direction, and the building blocks are already in place to progress further. Then it is about the M-word.

Lots to like and I do believe M will see us through this season but it will be tight. A big favour done with the delayed Barnsley game.

  • Frank Weston says:

I am inclined to agree Mark. That postponement may well have done us a big favour.
