Let The Rumours Begin!

Dean Whitehead has been mentioned in a tabloid report in connection with a move to Portman Road this summer to be reunited with former boss Roy Keane.

Would Whitehead be a good signing?

Currently captain of Sunderland, the 27-year-old could be after a move away from the Stadium of Light if Ricky Sbragia’s side are relegated from the Premiership. They did themselves no favours at the weekend in their battle against the drop, losing 3-0 away to basement club West Brom.

Whitehead could be attracted to Portman Road to play under ex-Black Cats gaffer Roy Keane, who is aiming to get Ipswich back into the Premiership in his first full season. He is primarily a centre-midfielder and has scored 14 times for Sunderland.

While Town have a number of centre-midfielders at their disposal already, one or two high profile players could leave in the summer to make way for Keano’s signings.

The rumour mill is likely to go into overdrive as this is likely to be the first of many reports linking past and present Sunderland players with a move to Portman Road. Only time will tell.
