Cardiff City manager Dave Jones has confirmed reports that defender Mark Kennedy is to sign for Ipswich Town.

Speculation arose on Friday that the Irish international was at Portman Road for a medical with a view to completing a move reportedly worth £75,000. The news is yet to be officially confirmed by Ipswich, but the Bluebirds boss has revealed that Kennedy will sign a 2 year deal with Town which is expected to be completed this week.

The experienced left-back will provide much needed defensive cover, quite possibly as a mentor for youngster Shane O’Connor, though at 34, there are likely to be some questions over how much of a part he can really play in boss Roy Keane’s future plans.

The news comes as rumours surface surrounding a possible move for Kennedy’s defensive team-mate Gabor Gyepes. Various sources suggest that Keane will look to sign the Hungarian defender as cover for Damien Delaney after he was ruled out for three months having suffered from a blood clot in his leg. However, whether Cardiff are likely to allow two of their back line to move to one of their Championship rivals is difficult to say.
