Connor Wickham will be an Ipswich player next season, that’s if Roy Keane has his way and the 16-year-old doesn’t move to one a number of big clubs interested in signing him.

Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Villa amongst others have been linked with Wickham, although he can’t sign a professional contract until he turns 17 at the end of March. But Roy is confident that he can convince the rising star that he would be best off staying at Portman Road.

‘We`re working with Connor every day. We know the type of lad he is and we obviously feel this is the best club for him and we’re very confident,’ said Keane.

‘Connor is playing in our first team at the moment, he`s learning from myself and the good coaches we`ve got here. He`s a level headed type of guy and hopefully he too believes his future is here.

‘You can go to one of these big clubs and get lost because they`re signing everybody. All we have at the moment is potential and my honest opinion is that this is the best place for him.’
