Is The Clock Ticking On Mick McCarthy?

Even under Paul Jewell we entertained and certainly did not lack a goal threat! But as Mick McCarthy admitted, when he was interviewed recently by Steven Pearce on Ipswich Player, this is the worst spell he has experienced as manager of Ipswich Town football club.

He began his life as Town boss on the 1st of November 2012 and after almost four years in the job, the blues seem to be going backwards not forwards and yet he refuses to concede that some of it could be his fault? On the contrary it takes a brave person to question his team selections and indeed his tactics because he is extraordinarily thin skinned.

Even someone like Stuart Watson in the East Anglian Daily Times is beginning to question his reasoning as he explained in his last column. ‘ McCarthy bristles at criticism. He feels his past CV and the way he saved Ipswich from relegation before guiding them to their first play-off place in a decade deserves respect. He`s right, but respect works both ways.’

The truth is that Mick Mccarthy is delusional. He seems to convince himself that certain players, who have been played out of position, have exceeded all expectations and the superlatives he exudes in his post match interviews give the impression that he is charge of Spanish giants Barcelona at times!

The reality is that we cannot score and attendances are dropping like a lead balloon. His obsession with defending at all costs is not only boring the pants off supporters but also largely counter-productive.

There are mitigating circumstances as I have highlighted before but when Daryl Murphy packed his bags for Newcastle United, he should have had the time to find an adequate replacement and not just journeyman Luke Varney and trialist Leon Best.

Is the clock ticking on Mick McCarthy? I would assume so. Marcus Evans was in his executive box observing events last Saturday and I doubt very much that he was impressed.

We have now dropped to 16th in the Championship and already any hope of a play-off place seems remote.

We cannot score and only bore, with entertainment definitely off the menu.
