The threat of Mick McCarthy leaving Ipswich to rejoin the Republic of Ireland has been heightened.
Problems securing Martin O’Neill have meant Irish eyes are back on McCarthy who previously managed the Republic.
Although managing director Ian Milne has been bullish about keeping McCarthy, and the believe is he enjoys the day to day challenge of running a Championship club.
However, it is understood there is a clause in McCarthy’s contract allowing him to leave if a national job came up.
