Ipswich Town’s successful spell seems to be infectious! This afternoon Town’s under 23 team defeated Crystal Palace 3-0 and better still, new signing winger Danny Rowe was not only on the scoresheet but his corner led to the second goal!

I was beginning to think that once we had pulled clear of any relegation fears, we would play without conviction but if anything, the squad is playing without any fear and the performances have improved accordingly.

Of course none of this would have been possible without the influx of fresh blood in the last transfer window and although supporters were collectively disappointed at the time, the new faces have made the world of difference.

Remarkably, no one has been found wanting and some of positively excelled, as is the case with Emyr Huws and Toumani Diagouraga and let us not forget too, the much improved Jordan Spence!

I have always been a believer in the round pegs for round holes football concept and although sometimes manager Mick McCarthy’s hands were tied through injuries and suspensions, sometimes they were not and there was no excuse for playing captain Luke Chambers as a wing back for two years – or indeed moving Freddie Sears out on the wing.

Neither did their reputations any good in those positions and it is only now that they are back playing where they belong, that we are seeing the best of them once more and long may this continue.

Once again though, injuries have plagued our season and this partly explains some of the strange tactics employed by the management team.

Next up it is the Canaries at Carrow Road and although this won’t be an easy encounter, we can go into it in good spirits having drawn three and won one of our last four Championship matches against some very daunting opposition.

It is a real shame that Tom Lawrence will not be available for the live televised derby game but with Freddie Sears back scoring again and Danny Rowe knocking on the first team door, there is genuine hope that we can get something from another very testing confrontation.
