Ipswich To Get £400k Windfall From Celtic Or Man U

Ipswich Town could secure a £400,000 windfall from one of the best know clubs in the world if a move by Jordan Rhodes comes off.

Celtic and Manchester United are among a raft of clubs supposedly looking to sign the prolific forward sold by Ipswich to Huddersfield for a reported £250,000.

The Town have a selling on fee, understood to be around 25 per cent on whatever Huddersfield make above the original fee,and a clause in the 21-year-olds contract allowing him to talk to clubs once a £2m fee has been offered, means Town would make around £500,000 on the player they signed as 15-year-old from Barnsley for £50k.

With 60 goals for the Terriers under his belt now, following four on Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday where his dad Andy is a goalkeeping coach, Rhodes is one of the hottest propects around.

Celtic boss Neil lennon has looked at him personally, while Paul Scholes has been to watch him on behalf of Manchester United and other scouts and managers have also checked him out.

Rhodes has already netted 19 goals for Huddersfield this season alone, plus another six for Scotland Under 21s so it is understandable manager Lee Clarke has said he doesn’t want to sell him at any price.

Roy Keane decided Rhodes could be sold as he would not get many opportunities with Connor Wickham coming through at Portman raod. Wickham was subsequently sold for an initial £8m but has yet to score for Sunderland.
