Aston Villa defender Habib Beye could be a loan target for Ipswich Town, according to reports today.

Beye joined Aston Villa in 2009 after impressing at Newcastle United, but the 33-year-old has failed to make an impact at Villa Park, where he has made just 9 appearances in two seasons. The French-born defender, who can play at right-back or centre-back, has been a regular feature in the Senegal international team.

Town boss Paul Jewell revealed yesterday that he was interested in making some loan additions to his squad, telling reporters from the local press: ‘I would like to get one or two by the end of the week’.

Beye would certainly provide some experience and cover in defence, particularly in the much-discussed right-back void. The Blues have recently utilised midfielder Carlos Edwards in this position – with mixed results – so a natural right-back would be a welcome addition.
