Ipswich Town director Ian Milne has confirmed Vital Ipswich’s story that the Republic of Ireland have no interest in appointing Mick McCarthy as their manager.

While the rest of the media, especially the local press, were speculating about McCarthy getting the Irish job, we exclusively revealed Ireland were not interested in McCarthy, had not approached Ipswich and have no interest in making him their boss, again.

Speaking at the usual pre-match presser McCarthy described the locals as ‘bonkers’ for pursuing the matter while MD Ian Milne said: ‘We’ve had no approach – the owner, us at the club, nor Mick.

‘It’s very much a ‘what if’ situation and we can’t deal with what ifs. We’ll worry about that if it happens.’

That statement comes as no surprise to us at Vital Football, ad we don’t expect the situation to change.
