Ipswich Town midfielder Colin Healy faces a spell on the sidelines having torn a stomach muscle in Tuesday’s match at QPR.

Healy, who has enjoyed a good spell in the first team since Paul Jewell took over, was in visible discomfort as he left the field after just 40 minutes of Town’s 2-0 defeat at Loftus Road. A scan on Wednesday revealed a centimetre-long tear in his stomach muscle, and now Jewell says he is not sure how long the Irishman will be out of action.

‘It’s a blow for the player and a blow for us,’ Jewell told BBC Radio Suffolk. ‘I don’t really like putting timescales on stuff but certainly he won’t be involved Saturday.’

The news comes as a blow for Ipswich and Healy, who had been in good form in recent matches including netting his first Town goal at Doncaster earlier in the month. There is better news on captain David Norris, who has an outside chance of returning from his knee and ankle injury in time for Saturday’s match against Portsmouth. If he is not fit however, the Blues could have some difficulties in midfield.
