Danny Haynes staked his claim for a regular starting eleven place with an impressive hat-trick for the reserves as their season got underway with a 3-0 win against Northampton.

An Ipswich reserve side that featured Matt Richards, Jaime Peters and Haynes started perfectly with a Haynes tap in from a Matt Richards corner.

The reserves went in on top after good link up play from Peters and the impressive Haynes. Just before the half time whistle, Haynes was brought down in the box by Nick Thorogood. The England U19 international successfully converted the spot kick and the half-time score was 2-0.

The striker-turned-right midfielder completed the his hat-trick on the hour mark with another goal from a Matt Richards corner – this time a header.

Even though it was a very poor reserve team the the blues second string played, Haynes was impressive throughout and the performance was sure to have impressed Jim Magilton who was understandably fuming with the youngster for getting sent-off in a reserve game a week previous.
