Ipswich Town have announced that skipper Carlos Edwards has moved to Millwall on loan ahead of the closure of the deadline today.

He joins the struggling Championship club until May 3rd having last featured for us back in the win at home over Reading in January.

Speaking to the Official Site as the move was announced, Edwards explained.

‘It’s important for me at this stage of my career to be playing football week in, week out. When I heard Millwall were keen to take me, I jumped at the chance to go there and play games. I wish Ipswich well and I hope when I come back to the club at the end of the season that I will be available for the Play Offs!’

Manager Mick McCarthy also confirmed that this was the main driver and he’d delighted that we have been able to help Edwards get some more regular playing time as it’s something he can’t obviously guarantee at the moment and hasn’t been able to for a while.

The 35 year old is out of contract at the end of the season and is now in line to make his debut for them this weekend in their game against Blackburn Rovers.

Since joining us from Sunderland back in 2009, Edwards has gone on to make 191 appearances for the club, 170 of which were starts, and in that time he has scored ten times.
