The Coronavirus has impacted negatively on all aspects of society as we know it, and now Town fan Ed Sheeran has put his plans on greater involvement at the club on hold.

There was much talk a few months ago about the musician playing a much more active role at the club, and this might have included some influence at boardroom level. Sadly, the music business is also on its knees at the moment, and he can no longer rely on touring the world, which of course accounts for a large slice of his earnings.

Sheeran remains very popular of course but since he broke through into the industry, he has been constantly in the public eye through media work and gigging regularly. Finances, therefore, are not what they were, and although he is much more frugal than many of his counterparts, everyone in the music industry is suffering right now; from musicians to roadies, to the people who put these concerts on. In this respect, Sheeran is no different, but in times of financial turmoil, it is little wonder that he would put some of his plans on the back burner for now.

A former school chum (the Professor) has stated before Sheeran’s desire to become more involved with the club, and of course, when he is not touring, it is not unusual to see him watching on in the stands. With fans banned from attending fixtures at Portman Road, Ed like the rest of us watches matches via a stream and has apparently been encouraged by the start Town has made to the new season. The narrow victory on Tuesday night was anything but memorable and yet it was three vital points in the bag that keeps Town within spitting distance of the current leaders.

I was particularly pleased to see Mark McGuinness partner Luke Woolfenden in central defence that night, and given the fact that this was their first pairing, I thought they equipped themselves pretty well. James Wilson was the unlucky one but I am sure Sheeran was delighted to see Town’s youngsters performing so well.
