East Anglian Derby Buildup – Your Verdict

Ahead of the big kickoff between Ipswich Town and Norwich City this afternoon, Vital Ipswich has been gathering your opinions this week on what you think the result of the derby will be – and the news is mixed.

Both Ipswich and Norwich go into this match with less than impressive form in the league, the Blues having lost their last three and the Canaries drawing their last four. However, following Saturday’s matches, Paul Lambert’s team now lie in 9th whilst Town languish in 16th, and with a tense atmosphere surrounding Roy Keane and his team at present, there are some feelings that defeat at Carrow Road could be one setback too many for the Blues boss.

It just so happens of course that the last time Ipswich played Norwich – a 3-2 win at Portman Road in April 2009 – manager Jim Magilton was sacked just a few days later. It would be a surprise if Marcus Evans and Simon Clegg – who have repeatedly backed the manager and even allowed him to make two new signings this week – should take such an opportunity to swing the axe on Keane, but the Irishman will not have many friends left if the Canaries come out on top.

With all that in mind, we asked you what result you think Town will get against Norwich, and here’s what you said:

47% – Win
7% – Draw
44% – Loss
3% – No idea

The figures make less than convincing reading. 47% predict Town will manage to get one over their local rivals, but only 3% less of those polled think that Norwich will take the points at home – a difference that is perhaps made up only by those refusing to accept that we might lose! 7% predicted that the game would finish honours even – something that very rarely happens in the East Anglian derby – while 3% supposedly cannot predict it either way (unless, of course, this is just a statistical anomaly).

It is clear therefore that confidence is not exactly soaring among the Blues faithful ahead of this key clash, but with more than just local pride at stake, a fourth straight defeat coming against the old enemy could shatter hopes around Portman Road once and for all.

This week’s poll: ‘Pleased with the signings of Gianni Zuiverloon and Rory Fallon?’ (See right-hand column to place your vote)
