Could Jonas Become Our Great Dane?

He is 22 years of age and has already played for Denmark twice at international level. He made his debut at the tender age of 17 and has already played 153 times for Esbjerg in the Danish league and looks to be a very bright prospect indeed.

He is not just commanding in defence but also on the field having captained the club that he joined at the age of 10!

Add to that the fact that he has an eye for goal and is a long throw specialist and we may just have uncovered a player who is even better than Tyrone Mings and Aaron Cresswell!

Early doors yet of course but the signs are very encouraging. Town were struggling until he came on against Utrecht yesterday and it was not long before he stirred the crowd into a frenzy with a number of long throws and a series of ambitious attempts on goal.

If there has been one major criticism of the McCarthy era it is that far too many of his players seem to be afraid to shoot on sight but here we have a defender who likes to attack the ball as well as defend it and his obvious desire to make an impression in English football is yet another reason to feel optimistic.

One half of football is not enough time to make a serious assessment of his chances of fulfilling his dreams but you only have to go to You Tube to catch a glimpse of his true potential and I believe that Terry Connor and Mick McCarthy have found another left back who will ignite the passion of Ipswich Town football club once more!

When one considers too how much we got from the Mings deal then to fork out just 350,000 quid for a player of his quality is another fabulous piece of business and it speaks volumes for the shrewd management operation that is now clearly palpable here.

The surreptitious nature of this transaction once again personifies the transformation that has taken place since the bad old days of Keane and Clegg and even Jewell for that matter.

Quite often the first thing we hear these days about a potential transfer target is when they are on the way to Portman Road for a medical – now isn’t that a breath of fresh air!

I am really looking forward to this season because there are so many reasons to feel cheerful! Since the departure of Tyrone Mings there has been much talk of the need to find a suitable replacement and although no one saw this one coming, again the club has managed to find a player that has seemingly escaped under the radar – although rumour has it PSV Eindhoven were also monitoring his progress closely.

Their loss is our gain though and all the new recruits have given me good cause to have a flutter on Town for automatic promotion!

It may be a long shot but the odds are shortening by the day!
