Can Ipswich Town Take Us Head Over Heels?

I am becoming increasingly more optimistic that Ipswich Town could make the top two after all! Why am I so positive all of a sudden? Well, it is not just about the Blues picking up four wins on the bounce but what is happening to our rivals!

Southampton went on that long undefeated run that I was convinced had to come to an end, sooner rather than later, and so it has. They have now lost three of their last five matches in the Championship and are currently five points adrift of the Tractor Boys, having played the same amount of games and with an identical goal difference.

Ipswich are neck and neck with Leeds United on 72 points, but when you look at our forthcoming fixtures we seem in a better place than our Yorkshire counterparts. Plymouth at the weekend might be a tough one for Town but after that, we have some very winnable games coming up. Then there are two home games against Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday with a game away at Cardiff City sandwiched in between. Given our current form, you would expect us to take the bulk of the points from them.

As for Leeds, they have two local derbies to look forward to, and they are both away at Huddersfield at the weekend, and then shortly afterwards, Sheffield Wednesday. We should also bear in mind that apart from us, the other three pretenders to the throne are in FA Cup action in midweek, and they all have to travel to Premier League opposition! The Foxes travel to Bournemouth tonight, and tomorrow the Whites go to Chelsea, and Southampton travel to Liverpool! If they want to progress further in this competition, then they must field fairly strong sides, and of course, a lot of travelling and injuries could derail their Championship hopes as well.  Meanwhile, Town can rest!
