Can McGoldrick Save Town’s Blushes?

We all know he has the ability but after so long out, can David McGoldrick really make a difference in the last seven Sky Bet Championship games?

There are still twenty one points up for grabs and tonight Town face a buoyant Charlton Athletic side who have ran into some form just when they need it most!

Only Rotherham United (13) and Burnley (11) have taken more points from their last five league games than Charlton on 10 so they will be determined to continue their crawl out of those dreaded relegation places with some more points on the board.

David McGoldrick won’t start again this evening which is to be expected but if he gets on for the last fifteen minutes, he is the sort of player that can change things.

He is generally a clever player but does have the tendency from time to time to overdo things and sometimes tries ambitious shots when he has support in space in the box.

Like most strikers though, being a bit greedy is the reason he gets so many important goals and there is no doubting his ability and his technical skills which we have sorely missed over the last few months – along of course with Teddy Bishop who will also bench warm tonight.

The good news for the blues is that The Addicts have failed to score in four of their last five league games against us and Ipswich have won five of their last six matches against them so let us hope this good run continues this evening!

But Town need to start scoring again and this is why David McGoldrick is an important addition to the squad. He has a knack of getting some vital goals and The Tractor Boys haven’t scored in either of their previous two league games, while a third without a goal would equal their previous longest dry spell of the season and would surely end once and for all, any play-off ambitions.

Town need to start on the front foot I feel and for some inexplicable reason we have been notoriously slow starters – often giving a silly goal away before we have got out of first gear.

This simply cannot happen this evening because our inability to find the net of late will ensure that supporters get anxious and this anxiety and frustration adversely affects the players on the field without a shadow of a doubt.

What we need is an early goal to settle nerves and if we get one I think we can go on to win this match tonight at Portman Road.

It may be too little too late but it is refreshing to see Teddy Bishop and David McGoldrick back in the frame and with Derby at home to Hull and Cardiff City away at Burnley there could be some points dropped above us if we can stay focused on the job in hand.
