Rotherham United have signed free agent Troy Brown after the defender was released by Ipswich Town.

Rotherham were previously linked with Brown back in early June, when the former Fulham academy graduate surprisingly reversed his decision to stay at Portman Road. The 20-year-old, who made 17 appearances for Town last season, has now signed a two year contract with the League Two side.

Millers manager Andy Scott was pleased to have acquired Brown’s services. ‘I have known him since his days at Fulham,’ Scott told the Rotherham United Website. ‘He has good pace and good passing ability and he has played a few games for Ipswich.’

‘He now wants to establish himself as a first team player and he is hungry to do well. I have known his agent for a long time and between us we convinced him that it was the correct place to come to.’

Brown is one of four defenders to have departed from Ipswich this summer, with Darren O’Dea returning to Celtic and Gareth McAuley and Tom Eastman joining West Bromwich Albion and Colchester United respectively. Reinforcements to the backline are likely to be an ongoing priority for manager Paul Jewell, who added left-back Aaron Cresswell to his defensive ranks this morning.
