Troy Brown is officially the first player to sign for Ipswich this summer.
Can’t say I’ve heard of him before, but he must be half decent to have been offered a contract twice at the club, by both Jim Magilton and Roy Keane. The 18-year-old had been on trial at the club under Jim’s management and was offered a deal, but once he was sacked, Brown did enough in a reserve game to convince RK that he was worth a contract.
Troy is a Wales U19 international and plays as a centre back, but after eleven years at Fulham, was released this summer.
Make no mistake about it, Brown is here to compete for a place in the first team and not just be one to look out for in the future. He told the club site: ‘I was disappointed when Fulham let me go. I had been there since I was seven and I still love the club but I want to prove them wrong and this is a chance for me to do that.
‘My aim is to break into the first-team here. I know that is not going to be easy but that has to be the target and if I do that, it will improve my chances of extending my contract here.’
Troy says that Keano will give him a chance in the first team this season: ‘The manager has said that I will get a chance to show what I can do this season and I’m looking forward to the opportunity.
‘I suppose it’s a bit different, having to impress two managers to get a contract here but I’m delighted.’
