Ipswich Town have announced that free coach travel will be available to fans for the Blackpool away game, while the Blues’ trip to Birmingham City has been postponed.

The news of the club’s decision to pay for supporters’ travel to Bloomfield Road arose in the wake of Town’s 7-1 defeat at Peterborough United a week ago, with many fans calling for tickets to be refunded. Whilst deciding against this, Chief Executive Simon Clegg announced last week that any Town fans purchasing Blackpool tickets from the ticket office before Tuesday 6 September will qualify for free coach travel to the game.

‘Speaking to the players and the manager, I know how disappointed they were about the result and performance at Peterborough,’ Clegg told the Club’s Official Website. ‘And while they were obviously personally embarrassed and dejected, they also felt bitterly disappointed as to how badly they had let our loyal fans down.’

‘We have looked at various ways of trying to give something back to those fans as a gesture of thanks for their support last weekend,’ he added, ‘but with Blackpool our next away game and the journey being the longest of the season for our fans, I think it’s fitting that we look to cover the costs of the official coaches travelling to support the team.’

Meanwhile Ipswich Town’s trip to Birmingham on Tuesday 1 November has been postponed after the West Midlands side qualified for the UEFA Europa League Group Stage on Thursday. The Carling Cup winners, who beat Town’s conquerors Arsenal in February’s final to enter the qualifiers, will be forced to rearrange a number of league ties to accommodate their European commitments, with no new date set for the fixture as yet.

How do you feel about the club’s offer of free travel following last week’s defeat at Peterborough? Is this adequate compensation for the supporters, or do you think the club should have refunded tickets for those who went to London Road?
