Ipswich improved on the display against Cork, but were lackluster at times in a 2-0 win over Saaaaaafend. After a goalless first half, manager Roy Keane stuck with the same side for the start of the second. Town’s best chance of the first 45 came when Liam Trotter hit the post in the final few minutes.

Trotter scored both goals in the second half. His first came on 58 minutes, after a neat link-up play between Jon Walters and David Wright. He had the simple task of heading home from Wright’s cross.

The 20-year-old then shot from outside the box halfway through the second period to put Ipswich 2-0 up. He could have had his hat-trick soon after but sent a header over.

Overall, it was probably only a 6/10 performance from the Blues, and they can definitely go up another gear or three. The game underlined the need for a goalscoring striker, but also proved that we do in fact have midfielders can pop up with crucial goals.

On a positive note, the performance of Delboy must have brought a smile to the face of RK, who convinced him to stay at Portman Road for another year.

Town side: Richard Wright, Bruce (David Wright), McAuley, Balkestein, Delaney (Smith), Walters (Rhodes), Trotter, Garvan (Shumulikoski), Norris, Martin (Quinn) and Stead (Wickham).
